Kawartha Youth Orchestra holding Festive Concert Dec. 11

The Kawartha Youth Orchestra is returning to an public in-person Festive Concert for the Christmas season.

The Festive Concert takes place Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church at 235 Rubidge St. in Peterborough.

Tickets are $20 at the door. Children five and under are admitted free.

Besides junior, intermediate and senior ensembles, the Kawartha Youth Orchestra also runs the Upbeat Downtown outreach program which provides tuition-free musical training through an after-school program at All Saints Anglican Church from September to June for elementary school-aged children living in Peterborough who are interested in music but face barriers accessing music education.

A public recital by Upbeat Downtown program musicians will be held Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church. There is no admission fee but donations for the program will be sought.

The Kawartha Youth Orchestra is also holding in-person auditions on Sunday at All Saints Anglican Church for children looking to join the intermediate and senior ensembles starting in January. Register is at bit.ly/3OYRcZy. Audition music is posted at the youth orchestra’s website at kawarthayouthorchestra.org. There is no fee to audition and piano accompanist is not needed to audition.

Children looking to start out with the junior ensemble do not need to audition and can be registered online at bit.ly/3HmVKqT.

The ensembles run from September to May with the juniors on Tuesday nights, the intermediates on Thursday nights and the seniors on Sunday afternoons. There’s also a percussion ensemble and a digital music production course.

The orchestras are for musicians aged eight to 28.
