‘Something Rotten!’ in the air on the city’s theatre scene

Theatre Guild musical comedy to run from April 28 to May 13

The Peterborough Theatre Guild its continuing rehearsals for its upcoming spring production.

“Something Rotten!” will be performed April 28 to 30, May 4 to 6 and May 11 to 13, with evening performances starting at 7:30 p.m.

There will be additional matinee performances on April 30 and May 7 at 2 p.m. at the 364 Rogers St. venue in East City.

The musical comedy, written by screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, was created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick.

Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of a Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.”

When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s first musical.

As opening night approaches, the Bottom brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self.

“Something Rotten!” features song and dance numbers and a cast of over-the-top characters.

The Peterborough Theatre Guild’s production is directed and choreographed by Elizabeth Moody.

The cast includes: Robert Ainsworth, Nate Axcell, Kate Brioux, Paul Crough, Rachel Dalliday, Mark Hiscox, Matt Kraft, Marsala Lukianchuk, Brian MacDonald and Brandon Remmelgas.

Justin Hiscox is the musical director with Margaret Pieper as production manager, Dustin Bowers as assistant musical director and vocal director, Kate Suhr as music and vocal consultant and Julie Fallis as choreography consultant.
