Saints boys, girls finish fourth

The St. Peter Saints boys and girls hockey teams had to settle for fourth place after losing in the bronze-medal contests at the OF-SAA AAA championships in Windsor on Thursday afternoon. The Saints girls suffered their first losses of the tournament and their season, falling 5-3 to the Brooklin Bears in the morning semifinals and 2-1 to Oakville’s Trafalgar in the bronze-medal game. Against Brooklin, Delaney Hancock, Bella Bowen and Lauren Guest scored the goals for the Saints, while Kylee Strano picked up two assists. In the bronze-medal contest, Guest scored from Hancock, while goaltender Brea Leahy performed well between the pipes. The Saints finished with a 4-2 overall record at OFSAA and 21-2-1 on the season, which included COSSA and Kawartha championships and two tournament titles. The Saints boys fell 4-3 to Brooklin in the semifinals and 4-2, including an empty-net goal, to Mother Teresa when battling for the bronze. Ryan Greco, Jacob Stinson and Mason Young scored for the Saints in the semifinals. Tom Donald and Young scored in the bronze-medal match. The boys were 3-3 at OFSAA and 20-11-2 overall with a COSSA championship.
