Alonso-Cruz, Cordeiro sign

U-Sports standout midfielders Monet Alonso-Cruz and Kyle Cordeiro have joined Electric City FC. Alonso-Cruz led Mount Royal University in assists, with five, and also scored three goals. During the 2022 season, she earned the honour of Athlete of the Week twice. Alonso-Cruz was in the Top 10 players from Canada West in game-winning goals. She led MRU to a recordbreaking season for their women’s soccer program, earning 25 points, securing them most points earned in a university season, and the most wins the school has ever recorded in a single campaign (seven). Cordeiro makes the move from Hamilton United where he played in 18 games last season, logging more than 1,400 minutes and contributing three goals. Representing STFX in 2022, he played and started in all 12 games this past season, scoring six goals and tallying two assists. For his performance at STFX, Cordeiro was named an Atlantic University Sport first-team all-star in 2021 and 2022. “I have heard amazing things about the community, and I can’t wait to give the supporters a fantastic season,” Cordero said. The season home opener will be on April 15 at Fleming College Sports Complex.
