Three new local COVID-19 deaths

EXAMINER STAFF

Peterborough Public Health reported three new COVID-19-related deaths over the past week on Wednesday, but maintained the community COVID-19 risk index at low.

No further details about the deaths were provided by the health unit.

The jurisdiction of Peterborough city and county, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation has now had 147 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The health unit also reported two new hospitalized cases over the past week. But there were only four new PCR test confirmed cases for the week, with active PCR test confirmed cases dropping to just 10. The tallies are considered an underestimate since most people do not qualify for lab testing.

There were no institutional outbreaks as of Wednesday.

Low is the second lowest of the health unit’s five-level risk index. Under the low level, the health unit advises people to wear masks if you prefer for risk reduction and in certain settings while also advising that people can gather with people as they feel comfortable and enter high-risk settings as they feel comfortable. People at high risk should still mask in high-risk indoor public spaces and keep gatherings masked and limited to outdoors or small groups.
